Redeeming the Time
Welcome to my new corner of the internet. Less distractions, More Obedience.
For a long time, I have felt the Holy Spirit pressing on something I didn't particularly want to confront: Social media is an idol in my life.
That's difficult to write, mostly because I knew it long before I was willing to do anything about it. I am distracted. Constantly reaching for my phone. Consuming other people's lives while neglecting parts of my own. Giving my attention, my thoughts, my creativity, and hours of my days to something that was never meant to have that much of me.
And somewhere along the way, I began to recognize that all of that noise was distracting me from what God was actually calling me to do.
Still, I stayed. I justified it. I tried boundaries. I told myself I could use social media differently. But the conviction never really left.
Today, wrestling with my thoughts and feeling the weight of everything that's happened in my life recently, Holy Spirit whispered to my heart:
Leave social media. Indefinitely. You're distracted from what you are called to do.
I knew it was Holy Spirit. He is so so kind, and gentle. I immediately began to try to reason why I didn't have to or need to but He said to me again, "Leave". I repented for my delay and for putting social media before my relationship with my Lord.
So I'm going.
I don't know how long I'll be away, and for once, I don't think I need to know.
I want to seek Him more. Write more. Pray more. Create more. Be present with the people in front of me. Follow through on the things God has put on my heart. Notice my actual life instead of continually interrupting it to consume someone else's.
There is time ahead of me that I can choose to steward differently. And there is time behind me that I cannot get back. But God can redeem what I cannot.
I think that's what I want this space to be about. Not just getting off social media but coming back to the things I've been too distracted to see. Coming back to what God has actually asked of me and trusting Him with what happens when I do.
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten…”
